Just creating a little thread where you can ask me about let’s say anything. :shy: And it’s just not a one day thread. If you wish you ask me questions anytime, any day just post it in this one. I’d come and reply in this one on a daily basis. :)

Hie , it’s good to see you after long time on mg. how was you trip?
My question is what is that one thing which a young girl should keep in mind while selecting her career? I know it’s not possible for everyone to be so successful but as far as you are happy it’s enough so, that points which they should keep in mind while selecting career.

I think when it comes to career you should do something that you like doing. Because if you are spending doing something 6-7 hours a day you should better like what you do. Not everyone has to be an entrepreneur. Whether you are in a job or you run your own business, you should be looking forward to doing it every single day. You can’t hate your job and imagine to find happiness or success in it.

In my case I had a few more careers before I finally found IMBB and fell in love with it. It is something I look forward to every single day. I really like what i do and that’s what I would suggest for others as well.

And if you are happy with your career option, you eventually become successful as well. :high5:

No only if you choose to make it. There are days i dont even wear makeup and i am
Abaolutely comfortable going out wearing just kajal. But on the contrary i also find it such a powerful tool. There are days when i am low and a little blush and a lipstick pep up my mood. and when i feel better i think i can keep the energy around me positive for others too. I am all about ‘ a little lipstick never killed anyone’ mantra

I have to questions for you-
1)Did you ever struggle to find the right career and partner for you?
2)Suppose you would have faced a lot of difficulties in establishing your career, what would you have done?

Right career – yes. I had a few other careers before i found imbb and fell in love with it.

Right Partner- sanjeev and i dated for 5 years before getting married. I think you have to spend time with the person to really know if he is the one. After a point i knew that i could not be with anyone else. I am so glad i fought for us to be together :shy:

And i did face a lot of difficulties establishing my career. I was one of the first people to start beauty blogging in a country where people did not even know what blogging was. So it was nearly impossible to make your own parents understand what you were Doing. But the key would be a lot of hard work, tough decisions, trusting people close to you , dreaming big but also being realistic. Hope that helps.

    1. How many careers did you have before IMBB? Also, how was life before IMBB and how is it now?
2.WHy you don’t post frequently on Faux Pas  I miss your Fashion Posts! :waiting:

Before imbb I worked in securities and the later ran Mba prep website called totalgadha.com with sanjeev.

At securties i used to work with my best friend so it was awesome. I have great memories. And totalgadha was literally a lovechild of sanjeev and me so it was the most wonderful time :) plus we were dealing with students who used to keep us very high on the pedestal . And imbb i found my true passion. I’d say imbb had been the toughest because we were dealing with women. Loll! But i would not exchange it for anything. It has been one heck of a journey so far and i am super excited for the future. Plus i work with the best team. It’s more than i could ever dream of :)

Regarding fauxpas, i would update it when we travel next. This was a work cum pleaure trip so got really hectic. And we travelled slow and mostly for ourslves. But fauxpas is still on and would be always :) thank you :)

      Skin Care For Teens

I think during colleage less is more- tinted moisturiser, kohl, mascara and some gloss. if you love bright lipsticks then may be just mascara, a bit of blush and lipstick is good enough.

Look for products from brands such as maybelline, lotus and elle 18. You’d find a lot of budget friendly options for you. :)

    Hi Rati,

This thread is an awesome idea. Its really good to see you take time out to answer all of our questions. IMBB is really the first beauty blog I started following and the only one I still check regularly.

I started the blog because there was no one else doing it back then so I felt the need for an Indian products centric blog.I thought I could help a few others who were looking for Indian product reviews online. and it spiralled from there.

IMBB is my full time job and career.. just like any other job for anyone else. I buy products to review on imbb and do makeup looks eventually. we always buy the products and not take it for free from brands to keep the reviews super authentic. The dream is to become google of makeup reviews. :)

You have achieved your dream. IMBB is truly the makeup google.
And the reason why it is so trustworthy is that the reviews are not paid for by the company. Kudos to you for that :)
I have a small request. Could you allow add ons on the reviews? Sometimes the products work differently for different skin types. It would be great if we could read how the product works for different skin types.

Hi Rati mam, you are Ravishing, Awesome, Tenacious and Intelligent (R-A-T-I). I have the following questions:

Did you ever have prominent facial hair? Did you do anything for it? Your skin looks so flawless.

    What’s your current workout routine?

    Not in looks.
    Not in what they say.

      Awww thanks Ahana. :)

No I never had any major facial hair. Infact I did not have unruly eyebrows as well. I started getting them done after I started IMBB just for more finish. I just have very annoying upper lips that I get threaded every two weeks! :) But you can do a lot of things that you can do nowadays – threading, waxing, shaving and even laser. Check this https://makeupandbeauty.com/best-facial-hair-removal-methods/

I have no workout routine atm. :( I sprained my back.Just trying to fix it on priority at the moment.

Awesome initiative Rati dear :pompom: Thanx for this opportunity to get hands on tips from you!!
My question is: what wud be ideal step & trick of foundation/blush/contouring pdts/face powder with application to get dewy dazzling finish NOT matte one? and what is preference to use brush or sponge to achieve that finish?
Also any effective/efficient (anti-ageing & hydrating) skincare product especially day-night cream you recommend? My frnd also has dry skin type; she wants to know particular product name to buy it preferably available in US.
Also smudge free, long-lasting kajal cum black liner if you recommend between Bobbi Brown & Burberry which one it wud be?

If you can dream it, you can do it..... :)

what wud be ideal step & trick of foundation/blush/contouring pdts/face powder with application to get dewy dazzling finish NOT matte one? and what is preference to use brush or sponge to achieve that finish?

I’d say that using a dewy primer and a well moisturised skin is the first step. Sometimes a few drops oil / liquid highlighter (becca champagne liquid highlighters / cover fx illuminating drops) can also help in getting that dewy glow.
So I’d go with primer (NARS radiance primer, cover fx illuminating primer, tom ford illuminating primer) – foundation – set everything with a bit of loose powder – blush – contour – highlighter. Then spray your full face with a setting spray to melt that powder-iness that you might get on your skin after applying powders. and you should get a lovely dewy skin. If you get very oily on your T Zone, just pat some extra powder or use blotting sheets.

I love products by Kiehl’s – avocado cream, line reducing serum, clarins blue orchid oil, chanel hyra serum, bobbi brown skin care is absolutely amazing as well – cleansing balm, eye cream,

if your budget allows, la prairie is absolutely fantastic.

    Hii Rati,

My skin type and skin concern is very much like yours. I am a big fan of dewy makeups…and I have a wedding to attend in Ahmedabad by the end of May..so suggest me some drugstore products or medium brands for dewy makeup look….

Also, I am a big fan of urs..in many ways you are truly inspirational…would love to meet you sometime in future….I too live in Delhi and dream of meeting you every day….  :nails:

      awww! Thanks rhea. :)

I quite like the maybelline and loreal makeup.

Maybelline fit me foundation is great and even their compact is pretty awesome. I’d say def set your makeup with powder and then use a powder highlighter ( makeup revolution and coloressence have fab ones) on top. the powder would prevent your makeup from melting in crazy heat. A setting spray is great…am not sure you get one in a medium range category.

and loving the new lakme argan oil lipsticks. they have some gorrg shades. :)

    Hello Rati

First thank u for creating such an awesome initiative
I like you for the truth in your words , nothing is made up everything comes straight from ur heart ❤️ which makes u unique . . Second I really can see the true love between u and Sanjeev , u guys prove that true love is not just duets or just enjoyment but growing along with each other in every walks of life .. I adore u guys for that, myself and my husband are also love marriage like u guys v know each other for more than 10 years and married for 4 .. We also struggled like u to be together I fought for him , it was really tough since v had religion issues , but you know what I succeeded and v are happily married with a toddler . I felt our love grew as time flies and we became like a indispensable part in each other life , I was so impressed when I saw that u and Sanjeev had the same vibes and rocking ur life .. Good luck to u guys , so happy .. So my question is what is the one single situation where you thought marrying him is my best decision , even my parents or nobody in this world could have done this for me , ?
One more request from my side , pls do retro look , we will love to see u in high puff bun , a dramatic eye and a bold red lip just like 70’s or 80’s with matching accessories.
One more question do u like saree ?

Thanks a ton for sharing your amazing story. I am so glad that you fought through this and are happy in your life now. I hope you and your family always find happiness together. :)

There are so many thing about Sanjeev. It’s almost hard to put down just about everything. But I’d tell you two instances that I never forget.

It was raining one day and I was wearing this white ..almost translucent linen shirt. He asked me to sit and wait for him in the restaurant. Sanjeev came back after a while all drenched. He literally went out in the rain not caring about himself to buy an umbrella for me so that I don’t get soaked in the rain.. like I can’t even explain how shocked I was to see his gesture.

While I was fighting with my parents, I started crying a lot one night while talking to him. He along with his friend drove all night just to tell me that he is there for me. I could neither meet him nor talk to him. We could only see each other from distance since I could not go out. And then he drove back to Delhi. It’s almost a 5-6 hour drive. So basically some 12 hours of driving just to see me for 1 minute and tell me that it is going to be okay.
How could I have not married him? :) We literally we kids. People see us today with all our lives and career but there is so much life before everything…before IMBB..before TG that we have lived together..just being crazily in love with each other. And I wish to just grow old with him and become that annoying old couple together.

I’d do the looks. Def taking the notes.

I love sarees..just that I dont know ho to drape them. If someone drapes the saree on me, I am okay carrying it around. :)

    hi,
a couple of years back my nephew broke my nose…ever since then my nose is sortta deviated to left…do you think i should do highlighting contouring technique or should i skip it?…and should i follow the normally touted method (by beauty gurus and MUAs) or follow some customized contouring?….i considered my nose as my best feature in the face up until the change

really sad about your nose muna. :( with makeup you can do corrective contouring for your nose but contouring on nose is so tricky because if not done right it would make your whole face look a bit strange. so i suggest that you really practise a lot of times before you step out doing one. and dont use a very shimmery highlight because it could bring a lot of focus on your nose, which you don’t really want. .. use a matte contouring powder and a highlighter which is slightly subtle highlighter to correct. and i suggest that you make other parts of your face a focus such as eyes, lips or flushed gorgeous skin. good luck. :)

Ok, two questions from my side

    1. What was your biggest fear when you were of my age? like at around 24-25? How and when did you overcome that?

    2. Does ever foundation with a SPF like 10-25 gives a white cast while photographing with a flash? I am planning to get the mac studio fix as they have shade options for me. But the little SPF is Bothering me a lot

      1. The only fear I have is losing a loved one. I live with no regrets and sometimes take mad decisions.Sometimes they work and sometimes they don’t. Don’t remember living with fears. Have always been like that and always want to be like that.

      2. no spf 10-15 should not be bothersome at all. if it worries you a lot, when you buy a foundation literally rub all the foundation on your wrist and take pic with a flash from your phone. you’d instantly get to know if the foundation gives a flash or not. :)

    Hi Rati….

    My questions are-

    1) which brands would be your pick for a handbag under 20,000 and 50,000?

    2) I can’t help but wonder about your schedule. To a plain eye, being the muse of a beauty blog photographer/ owner is associated with glitz and glamour. But the hard work on an everyday basis would be inevitable, I assume. Please elaborate my assumption.
What are the everyday challenges that u face as a beauty blogger… what are the long term challenges? As enunciated by Sanjeev’s post, u guys are super busy than ever now and your few posts corroborate that. What is ur extremely busy day like? What is ur relaxed day like?

    3) which car do u drive and which is ur favourite car?
Ps- the first part of the question, if sounds intrusive….u may skip that but not without knowing the intent.
I only intend to know that a combo of u and Sanjeev would go for which car? U are a diva , uber chic and with tonnes of panache , giving an impression of old money and Sanjeev- humble and very unassuming with an extremely simple persona. So which vehicle as per the twain reflects u both? That’s all.

      1. Michael Kors, Coach, Kate Spade :)

      2. Everyday challenges would be not been able to finish all the work I have planned for the day. I work from home, which is a blessing but a lot of interruption as well. Not that I’d change it for anything because it gives me the freedom to schedule my life the way I want to. So every day is different for me. I work with schedule and no schedule both. But I also manage my home so maids, and getting things done from them, keeping groceries stocked because Sanjeev does not take care of them, organising my makeup, decluttering, iron wala, drycleaner..all of it. :P I schedule each day at a time. Some days I have to do makeup look so between starting makeup look to posting it, it is a long timing of 6-7 hours. Other days would be taking photos, writing reviews, doing swatches, shopping for things I might need for a look, sometimes also getting hair done – i find it so annoying and time consuming. I would have to figure something about it though. And then apart from that I do take out time for myself in terms of doing my skincare and some 30-40 minutes of work out. I have back sprain atm so not just taking baby steps there at home only. I don’t do too much outfits now but if I am going out, I take photo of what I am wearing before stepping out.. like that’s my real life. :D But when there were outfits, it was another story altogether. But I am able to do all of it because I have a wonderful team who helps me do all this and more. Wouldn’t have been able to do if they were not around taking care of hazaar other things that IMBB requires. :) It’s a mad life but I love every bit of it.

  Free time, I sometimes go for a mani / pedi, I love shopping but also scouting and late night drives with Sanjeev. When I have friends around, I make out time for them.

which car do u drive and which is ur favourite car?
I don’t drive. I have a driver and I am extremely thankful for that. Sanjeev and I are are very simple people deep down and kind of keep ourself grounded in a lot of things. We have Verna because both of us wanted a very simple and comfortable car. And we love it. It gets the job done, is not too flashy and not too big. But whenever we buy our next car, it would be Audi. Sanjeev wanted a Beetle but that’s the car you should buy when you want to drive on your own. Both of us don’t want to do that. :)

      Hi Rhea,

It’s a very personal decision because ultimately you should like it. The best way i could suggest is that before you get the piercing, try a clip on nose ring or a bindi and see how you feel. If you are still confused you can post a picture with and without nose ring / pin on madam gupshup and take a popular vote. :)

I think it’s a very controversial topic and keeps coming back every now and then. Since I don’t have any personal research on the same, i can’t really have an opinion on the same. There are a ton of things than can be cancerous in today’s world, forget about the lipstick. Even the food that we eat today is not the same as it was during our grand mother’s times. So everything around us is pretty dangerous these days. I don’t pay much attention to these. But if it bothers you too much, you can totally follow the list avoid using them . :)

      Hi Par,

      Congratulations on getting married. :)

regarding your foundation, you can use a primer underneath. lakme and loreal make a lovely blurring primers that can give a smooth finish to the skin before you apply foundation. and if you are finding your foundation too thick to us,e mix it with a bit of a moisturiser. I personally would suggest that you get your make done from someone on your big day because there is a so much going on around, that it’s best that certain things are taken care of by others. but it’s all up to you.

so your beginners kit would include :
foundation for evening functions / bb cream for everyday. it’s better to pick one because during the few initial days of your marriage you’d be getting ready everyday and might have to attend a few dinners / parties etc.and foundation during day time could look a bit heavy.
compact. definitely. also you can slip it in your pouch for touch ups around the areas where you get oily.
blotting sheets. very helpful and prevent your makeup from looking cakey. so if you have to touch up, pat the oil with blotting tissue first before applying the powder.
Some lipsticks of your choice. It’s always good to have a red, and a few shades of everyday lip colors in your kit. If you are not a blush person, you may apply a bit of lipstick and blend it on your cheeks. That would do.
And pick a nice highlighter to add a bit of glow to your skin. but use it sparingly since you have oily skin to start with.
cleansing milk and eye makeup remover.
      kajal pencil
      and mascara.
You can buy a beauty blender but you can easily blend your foundation with finger tips. Give it a try 2-3 times and you’d get a hang of it. If that doe snot work for you, you can but a beauty blender.
And eyeshadow palette with neutral / gold toned shades. You can simply pat some gold on your eyelids with some mascara and eye kohl and call it a day.

      Hope that helps. :)

      1. France. Paris is always a good idea in my books. I want to explore more of it.
      2. Italy : Definitely want to go back again. I have the loveliest memories with Sanjeev there. We wandered off to some distant quiet neighbourhood in venice. It was totally a different experience away from the madness of the touristy crowd that venice gets. Then we used to sit by the canal in evenings with our cup of tea.. wine tasting where we got to meet some people whom we are in touch with still.

    Hi Rati,
Imbb has influenced me a great deal in using make up on a daily basis.
So the question is.. what brands of cosmetics (lipstick and eyeliner especially) and perfumes are budget friendly to shop in Singapore and Paris?

    Hi Rati Di,

I’m on this forum after a long time, and I’m happy to see this thread because there’s something I’ve been meaning to ask you specifically. I think you’ve mentioned in a post somewhere on IMBB that you have hooded eyes. Besides, from your photos too, I see that there is not a massive amount of lid space in your eyes. How do you like to do your eyes for a day to day look? I have the same eye shape. While I think it could be extremely sultry if made up right, I fail at it quite often. I try to make my eyeliner super thin, yet it takes up all the lid space I have. Any pointers would be nice! :)

I dont do thin liner. I utilize most of my lid space because i know when i open my eyes, most of it will be gone. :P And regarding eyeshadow, when you blend your eyeshadow, blend it above the crease and look straight in the mirror. Do most of your makeup with your eyes looking straight in mirror rather than looking down. That’s the best tip i could give you. :) and mostly I’d do a smudgy kohl on a day to day basis- this one : https://makeupandbeauty.com/simple-smudgy-smokey-eye-tutorial/

      good luck :)

    Hi Rati,
Nowadays all the indian beauty blogger are endorsing Nykaa, but I have never seen you endorsing them or any other website.
I trust your opinion 100%, that’s why I want to ask you whether Nykaa is trustworthy. I am planning to buy an expensive product, but before that I wanted your opinion because I don’t want to spend my hard earned money on fake products. Please advise.

    Hello Rati and Sanjeev,

This is not a beauty related query, but is more of a feedback. I couldn’t decide where to post, so posting here. Please feel free to delete this, if it is an incorrect place.

Off late, I have seen that both the IMBB and Madam Gupshup Websites are flooded with Advertisements. I understand the fact that to keep them running, you need sponsors, and hence these ads. My only problem is that, this has degraded my experience as a user. I have to actually find my way to the articles and posts through the ads. I hope and wish you could look into better ad placement, so that they are not too in the face, and we can read the posts just as before.

I am facing the same problem. The advertisements are in the face. It takes time to get to the actual content. I read IMBB reviews before buying products. I posted the same problem earlier as well. But it was deleted.

This is a feedback from a regular reader of IMBB. I hope you do something regarding this problem.

So late to discover this… But now that I have, I’ll make good use of it
    My questions are..
1- plz suggest a budget eyeliner brush
2- are facial oils good idea for oily skin(I’m looking forward to use Juicy Chemistry serum)
3- if you live in a place where you don’t seem to connect with the people around you, is it ok to stand on your grounds or try to mingle with them by a compromise. I live in a hostel where my thoughts don’t match with other quite often, nor I like the stuff they talk about :headbang:

the ones that come with maybelline and loreal gel liners are pretty good. or you can buy a simple one from vega. it’s good. :)

2- are facial oils good idea for oily skin(I’m looking forward to use Juicy Chemistry serum)
Yes it is because oils can balance out the PH of your skin and prevent excess production of serum on skin. Try using an oil cleansing method first.

I think it’s better to make and effort mingle around. You might end up making friends eventually. It would be sad if you get singled out … You dont have to compromise but try to understand their thoughts and may be out yours across forward..make an effort for a good conversation. and don’t think too much about it.. you could chit chat while you guys are having meals or getting ready etc. it takes time to gel with people in a new evnvironment. But hostel life can turn out to be the best time of your life so don’t miss out on it. :)

I want to know how you manage wearing makeup with a white dress?
Whenever I wear a white dress and do the makeup afterwards, I see shadow powders and blushes falling on the dress. When I do teh makeup first and then wear the dress, the dress rub across the face picking up the product :(

here are the two tips :

1- fix your makeup with a mist or a fixing spray.. i mean the makeup should not fall off your face.. :| Fix it. And if you are too worried, stick to cream based products and use a light dusting of powder to fix everything in place,

And when wearing white dress- the rule is that if it does not have a wide neck, wear it first and literally stuff the neckline with tissues while you are doing your makeup. Keep a towel on the lap.

      Hope that helps. :)

    Hi Di,

First of all I want to Thank you for bringing us platforms where we can not only have beauty, makeup reviews/tips, now we can all gupshup a lot. And I LOVE you traveling blog.

    I want to ask:

    1. What should be beauty routine for a girl who is turning 30 this year?
    2. What should be best anti-aging product for her? budget friendly wise?
    3. What is more peaceful? Working at home or job?
    4. Your tips for a loving, friendly marriage?

Thank you Di, I know I asked a lot :scared: and sorry for that :shy:

      1. What should be beauty routine for a girl who is turning 30 this year?
Keep your skin hydrated. Start using a serum if you havent already. Never forget a sunscreen – best anti ageing product. Also include a night cream in your routine.

      2. What should be best anti-aging product for her? budget friendly wise?
      Ponds night cream https://makeupandbeauty.com/ponds-flawless-white-re-brightening-night-treatment-review/
Lotus makes great sunscreens. L’oreal and Aroma magic eye cream is good.
I’d say invest in a good serum because it will make all the difference. https://makeupandbeauty.com/25-best-facial-serums-for-flawless-skin/

I’d really suggest that you extensively research imbb for the products you really want. It would take a few test and trials before you get your solid skincare in place. but it would be worth it.
      3. What is more peaceful? Working at home or job?
I think it is most important to love your job so whether you are at home or at work place, if you don’t like what you do you would not like your work anywhere. Both have their pos and cons and neither is perfect. But liking what you do is the most important.

      4. Your tips for a loving, friendly marriage?
Umm…I think being able to talk to each other. It may sound very underrated but if you can’t strike a conversation with your partner, I think it develops distance over a period of time. Also keep the humour alive. Sometimes you make your partner laugh and sometimes he does:)

    hey mam
what are your thoughts about laser for facial hair removal. As far as I think, you haven’t gone through it.
I really wanted to try it but then I was like “If Rati mam hasn’t tried it, there must be some downside to it”.
    plz enlighten in this regard
    Thanks :)

Hi Asmita – Rati doesn’t have any facial hair issues, so she hasn’t undergone such a treatment; however, since I suffer from PCOD, I have taken 4 sessions of permanent hair removal using the nd-yag laser. It’s kind of a good solution to get rid if you are conscious about excessive growth. Usually salons offer a 6-sitting package where you have to pay approximately 30 to 35,000. Laser treatment does give you freedom from frequent waxing and threading sessions – and most of the times hair that grows back is extremely fine and not much prominent.

Thank you so much mam. I don’t have prominent hair growth. Just the sideburns. I haven’t undergone any hair removal techniques for the the face. But I didn’t want to be bothered about threading n waxing.
    Thanks again :)
